On The Line

Well I've completed my training and I'm now flying full time for Sun Western Flyers. I'm so glad to be back in the pilot's seat again. The training only lasted one week, and the week was pretty intensive with an IFR refresher, part 135 regulations, & upset training.

The upset training was the best part of the program, and it is designed to help recover an airplane from any attitude that it may get into. This is especially important since we fly into Sky-Harbor, an airport full of heavy jets, in a little airplane. I got to go up in a Citabria (Tail-Wheel & Aerobatic airplane) with a former F-4 & AV-8 driver and we did some things in that little airplane that I've never done before. The whole idea is to get me into very unusual attitudes that can occur when in the wake of a jumbo-jet and teach me to recover in minimum altitude loss. In all I did real well and had a lot of fun in the short 45 minute lesson.

Work has been pretty sweet, my main run takes me to Sierra Vista, and Tucson AZ. I am in the air at 7 AM, arrive in Serra Vista at 8 AM, drop off my cargo and spend all day by the pool at the company apartment. Then Take off at 5:20 PM, stop in Tucson, and land in Phoenix Sky Harbor by 7:30 PM. It makes for a pretty easy day! Although I don't make a lot of money, I'm so much happier flying than I was as a construction manager.
